National Dog Day

26th August 2021

For most dog-owners, every day is Dog Day – however, on every August 26th, the entire country gathers to celebrate man’s best friend!

It’s no secret that the sight of paws on The Pantiles delights us – thus, in this week’s blog, we’re exploring ways in which you can pamper your pooch on their special day.

Read on for our top tips!

Looking and Feeling Great

There’s no better pet than a dapper dog! A regular brush will help with shedding hair, prevent their coat from matting and leave your four-legged friend looking fly.

Keep in mind, some dogs – especially poodles and cocker spaniels – require more grooming than others. With such unpredictable weather of late, removing dirt and water from your dog’s coat is easier said than done. Thankfully, our friends at Collared have everything from towels to microfibre mitts – ideal in keeping your furry friend fresh when they’re strutting about town!

Get Some Exercise

After over a year of lockdown restrictions, we’ve all felt the effects of cabin fever – but imagine how difficult it’s been for our hyperactive pups! If you’ve come home to find that your favourite slippers have been chewed to shreds, it’s definitely time to take your doggo for more frequent walks!

Exercise for pups is just as important as it is for us humans. Many dogs love to swim – so why not take your pet to the nearest park or somewhere for a paddle? Having time to interact with other pooches is essential. Prep them for their walk with a stylish lead and collar – and don’t forget the poop bags!

Treat Them to a New Toy

As previously mentioned, pups have a seemingly endless supply of energy!

After a hard day at work, it’s often difficult for us to muster the motivation to leave the house for a walk – on these occasions, it’s important to have a variety of toys for your pal to play with.

Although cats can be pretty picky about toys, dogs are often more than willing to play with any object they can get their paws on. We recommend firm rubber chew toys, robust ropes for them to play tug of war with – and of course, durable stuffed toys (emphasis on the word ‘durable’)!

Keeping Warm and Dry

Attire for summer 2021 has ranged from t-shirts, shorts and summer dresses – to thick coats, scarves and cagoules! The season has been indecisive, to say the least; hence why it’s important to protect your doggo from the elements when venturing outside.

Whether it’s a raincoat, sweater or just a cute bow tie – stay prepared by having all their gear near the door so you can grab it whenever you leave the house! Once again, there’s no better place to purchase stylish clothes for your canine than The Pantiles’ hub for dog accessories; Collared!

Sweet Dreams

After working like a dog – your pooch deserves a night sleeping like a log (and probably 5 additional naps throughout the day). While pups will kip almost anywhere – a soft, cozy bed is certainly where it’s at! If it’s comfortable enough, it might even keep them out of your bed for a night – although, we can’t guarantee this!

Collared

Collared is a dog accessory and gift shop in the heart of The Pantiles. The store sources top quality products from around the world for puppies and dog lovers. These include Puppia, West Paw, Wacky Walker, Rough Wear, Walters, Hunter and Flexi.
