Here comes the Sun… It’s Sun Awareness Week

12th May 2017

So the countdown to the summer holidays has begun, which means spending days out in the sun. The majority of us love summer, because of the warm sunny days it brings with it.

But we should talk about how to stay safe in the sun this summer while strolling around The Pantiles, as part of Sun Awareness Week!

Did you know that according to the British Association of Dermatologists, more than one in three Brits have been sunburnt in the last year in the UK, and 46% of Brits burnt last year while abroad,

So what can you do?

The first step is to start with suncream, which is incredibly important when looking after your skin, so you’ll need to head to Imperial Pharmacy for some Malibu Sun Lotion SPF lotion for £3.99

Sun cream tips

  • Reapply cream every two hours, or after getting in the water.
  • Remember that no sun cream is 100% waterproof… reapply!
  • You’ll want to use a teaspoon for each leg, arm, and face etc.
  • Don’t use last year’s holiday suncream, we recommend repurchasing if it’s 12 months.
  • Commonly missed areas are the neck, ears and feet, and hard-to-reach areas – like the back

If you are heading out in the sun and want to look beach ready, Jack Wills here at The Pantiles have a fantastic range of swimwear, and hats to make sure you cover your head.

Our favourites are:
Enfield cap £16.95
Botany Bustier bikini top – Navy print £29.95
Botany classic bottom – Navy Print £19.95

Get that glow without the sun

If you are heading off on holiday, we recommend getting a spray tan from Mirror Beauty. The days of using sunbeds before a holiday are long gone, now we know the damage that UV can cause! Getting a spray tan is a great way to get a pre-holiday glow without the risks.

If you have indulged in a bit of sun-tanning, Mirror Beauty’s ACI Orbital Microdermabrasion £50 can be used to treat sun damaged skin.

This treatment uses controlled orbital microdermabrasion to exfoliate and deeply cleanse the skin, combined with LED light therapy for tissue repair and healing. The controlled removal of skin cells reveals more youthful looking skin and together with light therapy can be used to treat sun damaged skin and acne scarring.

So get ready for summer with The Pantiles, and remember to stay safe when out in the sunshine this summer with our recommendations as part of Sun Awareness Week 2017.
