When it comes to eating out, you’re simply spoilt for choice in Tunbridge Wells. With over 200 places to eat serving up dishes from every corner of the globe, it’s every foodie’s delight – but there’s one place you simply can’t miss out on.

The historic Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells started life as a fashionable Georgian destination, and is now an elegant area to enjoy shopping, eating and drinking. Restaurants, cafés and bars hover on every corner, tempting in locals and tourists. Here are three of the best from The Pantiles.

Best for… Seafood

The Old Fishmarket by Sankey’s

Sankey’s fashionable Champagne & Seafood bar is situated in the bijou Old Fishmarket building, which dates back to 1745, in the heart of the Pantiles. Priding themselves on the quality of their produce, Sankey’s serves only the very best of British fish and shellfish.

Fresh oysters, crabs and lobsters are their speciality, with dishes ranging from light lunches to luxurious platters, and a selection of sparkling wines and champagnes from around the world. What’s more, Sankey’s commitment to sustainable fishing means you can eat with a clear conscience.

Best for… Afternoon Tea

Shrager’s Patisserie

With her prestigious cookery school just around the corner, Britain’s best-loved cookery teacher Rosemary Shrager is a familiar figure in Tunbridge Wells. Two years ago she opened Shrager’s Patisserie, a chic café with a continental atmosphere and a menu packed with French delicacies.

Paris-trained chef Marc Mouzon – previously head pastry chef at Michelin star restaurant Le Royal Champagne and the Savoy – has come to Tunbridge Wells to work his magic, creating beautiful macarons, tarts, cakes, cheesecakes, mousses, croque-en-boche and much more.

As well as these Instagram-worthy delights, Shrager’s Patisserie serves up light lunches and afternoon tea.
