About Easter

Easter is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer and penance.

The week prior to Easter is referred to as Holy Week and culminates in Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. In western Christianity, the Easter season begins on Easter Sunday and lasts seven weeks, ending on Pentecost Sunday.

Easter and its related holidays are ‘moveable feasts’, meaning that they do not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian or Julian calendars, which only follow the cycle of the sun. It has come to be the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or soonest after 21st March, but calculations vary in East and West. Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. In many languages, the words for ‘Easter’ and ‘Passover’ are identical or very similar.

Easter customs vary across the Christian world and include visiting church, decorating Easter eggs (a symbol of an empty tomb), Easter egg hunts, Easter parades and exchanging gifts.

Children’s Easter Egg Dip

Every child who dines from the children’s menu, gets the chance to play the Woods lucky dip game! There are some great prizes on offer, including a giant chocolate Easter egg.

Photo Competition

Take an Easter-themed photo with your family at the Woods’ Easter Props Area, tag the restaurant on Facebook or Instagram and you’ll be entered into the competition to win a family ticket to the Crazy Jeans Soapbox Race at Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells on 8^th June. There are other prizes up for grabs too.

Easter Sunday Brunch

Woods will be serving its signature brunch menu on Easter Sunday, with a selection of dishes including Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale and Kent Rarebit. There are also vegetarian and vegan options available.

Easter Sunday Lunch

From lamb, beef or turkey roast to braised belly of pork and falafel and halloumi burger to the Woods’ vegan salad, there are plenty of mouth-watering options on the Woods Easter Sunday lunch menu. 2 courses for £19.50 or 3 courses for £25.00.

Easter Sunday Afternoon Tea

From 2pm on Sunday, Woods will be serving an Easter Day Afternoon Tea. Choose from Kentish Cream Tea, Afternoon Tea for Two, Sparkling Tea for Two or a Children’s Tea. Prices from only £5.75.
