Welcome to this week’s blog which comes courtesy of Vikki Eames at Chegworth Farm about local produce and what’s in season.
The arrival of summer signals a time of plentiful produce for Chegworth Farm Shop. Their home farm is just 24 miles from The Pantiles and fresh fruit, vegetables and salads are delivered daily to the shop. Over the coming weeks their own raspberries and strawberries will be available in the shop along with blueberries and currants.
Salad leaves and cucumbers are growing in abundance and the first of the new season courgettes and aubergines are now being harvested. They also have direct links with partner farms in Spain to bring the most delicious peaches, nectarines and apricots which are at the peak of their season.
We all have our fingers crossed for warmer weather as the cherry season is fast approaching and Chegworth Farm have freshly picked cherries daily at the shop.
The next couple of months are an important time out in the orchards with plums ripening for the start of August and apple harvest kicking off later that month with the first season discovery apples followed by around 30 different varieties of apples and pears.
New this month the Chegworth Farm Shop is now licensed for the sale of alcohol and they have hand selected some of the very best local producers of wine, beer, cider and spirits and will be adding to the offering over the coming weeks. They’ve also launched their new apple and ginger juice, along with organic russet apple juice joining their award-winning range of juices.
If there is anything in particular you would like to see on the farm shop shelves, Chegworth Farm Shop is always keen to add new and interesting products – so let them know!
