Celebrating Hot Breakfast Month at The Pantiles

29th January 2024

February is Hot Breakfast Month, a culinary tradition that warms our hearts and tantalises our taste buds! Hot Breakfast Month is celebrated every February, and it is the chance to sidestep the Shreddies and plump for something a little heartier.

There are plenty of delectable offerings at The Pantiles during this special month dedicated to the most important meal of the day.

Hot Breakfast Month History

Hot Breakfast Month is not an age-old tradition but rather a modern celebration that emerged in the United States. While the exact origin remains a somewhat unclear, this culinary festivity has gained popularity as a response to the growing trend of fast-paced, on-the-go breakfast options that often sacrifice the warmth and comfort of a traditional hot breakfast.

The founder of Hot Breakfast Month remains elusive, but the movement began to gain momentum as people started to recognise the importance of starting the day with a wholesome, hearty meal. It serves as a reminder to slow down, savour the moment, and indulge in the simple pleasure of a hot breakfast.

Self-care and Nutrition

Beyond the delectable aromas and flavours, Hot Breakfast Month carries a deeper significance. It encourages individuals to prioritise self-care and wellbeing by nurturing their bodies with nutritious morning meals. As we navigate the hustle and bustle of daily life, taking the time to enjoy a hot breakfast becomes a ritual that sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

Breakfast Inspo

Whether you’re a meat eater, pescatarian, flexitarian, vegetarian or vegan, there are plenty of hot breakfast ideas you can try. According to recent surveys and trends, classic English breakfast remains a firm favourite, closely followed by variations of avocado toast, smoothie bowls and traditional porridge. Additionally, there is a growing interest in international breakfast options, with dishes like shakshuka, congee and chilaquiles gaining popularity.

Here are a few of our favourites as inspiration:

  • Smashed avocado on sourdough toast, along with smoked salmon served with a boiled or poached egg
  • Hot oatmeal with caramelised pears and nuts
  • Egg breakfast muffins
  • Sweet potato and black bean stuffed breakfast wrap
  • Breakfast burrito with potato, sausage and egg
  • And, of course, a full English!
