The allure of seafood has long tempted taste buds. In the UK, where maritime traditions run deep, seafood is not merely a meal – it’s a cherished tradition and a delicacy celebrated across the country.
This summer, Kent’s maritime heritage and seafood culture will shine even brighter with the arrival of the Sankey’s Summer Feastival at The Pantiles.
Kent, often called the “Garden of England,” is renowned for its diverse seafood offerings, thanks to its extensive coastline and thriving fishing industry. Stretching over 350 miles along the English Channel, Kent’s coast is a haven for a wide range of fish, shellfish and crustaceans. The native Whitstable oyster stands out, with its unique flavour and historical significance, having been harvested from the shallow waters of Whitstable Bay for centuries.
The coastal towns of Margate, Ramsgate and Deal are known for their vibrant seafood markets. Here, fresh catches like cod, haddock and Dover sole are proudly displayed, bringing the essence of the sea to local dining tables.
At the heart of The Pantiles, Sankey’s Old Fishmarket restaurant stands as a beacon of culinary excellence. Located in the historic Old Fishmarket building, the Champagne & Seafood bar offers a luxurious retreat for seafood enthusiasts. The restaurant is renowned for its exceptional seafood offerings, including native Whitstable oysters and fresh crabs and lobsters from Cornwall.
Sankey’s Old Fishmarket is celebrated for its commitment to quality and freshness, sourcing seafood directly from local waters and preparing it with care. The menu features a range of delicious options, from elegant seafood platters to mouth-watering mains, all complemented by an extensive selection of Champagne and sparkling wines.
It’s the perfect place to experience the best of British seafood in an historic setting.
To celebrate seafood, and other culinary delights, The Pantiles is hosting a Summer Feastival on 17th and 18th August. This vibrant event, sponsored by Sankey’s and supported by Great British Kitchens & Interiors and Royal Tunbridge Wells Together, will feature over 20 food and drink stalls offering diverse global cuisines, from Thai and Taiwanese to Caribbean and Mexican. With over 500 products and flavours to sample, there’s something for every palate.
The Feastival will be headlined by MasterChef champion Kenny Tutt and feature renowned chefs like Atul Kochhar and Calum Harris.
The event promises not just delectable food but also live music and entertainment for the entire family. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the best of summer dining and community spirit in the heart of The Pantiles.
