What’s in season?

With the courgettes crisis and iceberg lettuces hitting the headlines in recent weeks, it’s becoming ever more apparent just how important it is for us to support local farmers and eat seasonally where possible.
Although the winter months are not our main growing times on our home farm, we do, where possible work direct with a wide range of UK farmers to offer the freshest seasonal produce on our shelves at Chegworth Farm Shop.
At the farm we’re still harvesting fresh green kale and UK cabbages, beetroot, cavolo nero, carrots, celeriac, leeks and potatoes are in plentiful supply.
By working with salad farmers just along the road near West Malling, who have direct links with Spanish farms, we’ve also been able to offer an uninterrupted supply of lettuces and leaves and continue to source courgettes, broccoli and other Spanish vegetables at the best prices we can.
We’re very excited to welcome Christopher Millns who has joined us as manager at our Pantiles farm shop, who brings with him a wealth of experience along with a wide range of new and exciting products which are already filling the shelves.
Look out for Ginger’s Kitchen ready meals from West Sussex, local cheeses from Allsop & Walker including Lord London, Mayfield, Sussex Crumble & Sussex Blue as well as a great selection of house wines from Berry Bros & Rudd to name just a few!
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, why not give a gift with a difference – we love the Fine Cheese Company cheese hearts (choose from black waxed cheddar, Sharpham heart brie or Whitelake heart crumbly goats cheese) and the gorgeous Rowdy & Fancy’s chocolates. Fresh flowers & hand tied bouquets will also be available.
Biddenden Vineyards will be dropping in on Saturday 11th February with tastings of their Sparkling Wines and we have a great selection of local and speciality wines, ciders & beers in stock now.
As ever, please get in touch if there is something you would like to see stocked in the shop – we’re always looking for new and interesting suppliers, and please drop in to say hello to Christopher if you have not already!
