National Cupcake Week

21st September 2016

It’s National Cupcake Week. Yes, that’s right, a whole week dedicated to your favourite sweet treats – we’re in heaven! It’d be rude not to enjoy a few cakes this week, and we know just the place to go.

The CakeShed is a thriving independent café that has been delighting visitors to the Pantiles for nearly four years. With gourmet soups, salads and sandwiches – and of course, incredible coffee and incredible cakes – it’s a favourite with locals and tourists alike.

Spoilt for Choice

There’s a dizzying array of cakes on offer, with flavour combinations ranging from British favourites to the more exotic. Guinness and chocolate, strawberries and cream, banana and toffee, lemon and poppy seed, orange and polenta… Each sounds (and looks) as delicious as the next. There’s even a great selection of gluten free options.

“We do a huge range of cakes at The CakeShed – some of the classics, but we also like to play with ingredients. What makes our cakes different is that we make them on a small scale, every day, in a domestic size in our open kitchen.”

– Carol, Head Baker

Enjoy The CakeShed’s speciality in the ambience of the café, or take them away, whole and beautifully packaged, to eat at home.

Serious about Coffee

“We pride ourselves on serving some of the best coffee in town. All our baristas are trained in how to make the perfect cup of coffee,” says Francesca.

The CakeShed spends up to four weeks training its baristas, and serves some of the finest coffee in Tunbridge Wells. And if you prefer tea, there are fourteen speciality types to sample.

Supporting Local Artists

During the summer, The CakeShed is open on Thursday and Saturday evenings for Jazz on the Pantiles and Soul Train, where you can enjoy homegrown music, beers, wines, soft drinks and snacks.

“We’re very much part of the local arts scene. We have a local artist exhibiting on our walls, and we change the exhibition every six weeks. We promote local musicians, we have live acoustic evenings once a month, and we’re always looking at ways to support and encourage local artists to be part of The CakeShed and to share the experience with our customers.”

– Francesca Gilpin, Owner
