As Halloween approaches, The Pantiles is thrilled to invite you to our Monster Mash on 26th October from 11 am to 3 pm. This Halloween-themed event is the perfect opportunity for families and friends to come together for a day filled with thrills and chills. So, dust off your costumes and prepare for a hellishly good time!
Halloween is celebrated on Thursday 31st October this year. It has its roots in ancient Celtic traditions, particularly the festival of Samhain. This festival marked the end of the harvest season and the onset of winter. It was believed that during this time, the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred, allowing spirits to roam freely.
People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off wandering spirits. The custom of trick-or-treating originated from the medieval practice of “mumming,” where people would dress in costumes and go door-to-door, performing for food. Over the centuries, Halloween has transformed into a fun-filled celebration that encourages creativity and community bonding, with modern-day traditions like pumpkin carving, haunted houses and, of course, trick-or-treating.
Halloween is not just about the scares and sweets; it’s a time for communities to come together, celebrate creativity and enjoy each other’s company. Whether you’re a little monster or a grown-up ghost, we have the perfect potion to keep you refreshed throughout the day.
Little witches and wizards can enjoy a fun workshop with Usborne/Bubbly Books, where they’ll be painting and colouring to their hearts’ content.
